Driven by Kindness: Celebrating Two Years of the TASK Truck

TASK Food Truck Coordinator Max Gatto serves meals with warmth and a winning smile five days a week throughout the Capital City.

For two years, the TASK food truck has been putting hot, nutritious meals directly into the hands of our neighbors in need.

“One of the many things I love about the truck is that it has become a community,” says TASK Food Truck Coordinator Max Gatto. “We distribute meals, yes, but each stop has become a mini support network for the people we serve.”

Joanne is a great example. A loving grandmother, Joanne is the primary caretaker of five young children. She visits the TASK Truck weekly to make sure they get the meals they need. If she has unopened food items going unused at home, she brings them on her next visit to offer to others in return.

Five days a week, the TASK Truck travels the streets of Trenton serving thousands of people who are otherwise facing significant barriers to accessing food. Transportation, age, childcare, disabilities, work and even stigma can make it hard for people to visit our Escher Street dining room.

“Access is more than just availability,” says TASK CEO Amy Flynn. For example, a recent survey revealed that more than 50% of people who visit the TASK Truck live less than 10 minutes from their preferred site. Many people who visit our Escher Street dining room report a much longer commute. In fact, only one-third of food truck patrons have traveled to the soup kitchen for meals.

“By bringing meals out to people in their own communities, we are making good food truly accessible to the people who need it,” adds Flynn.

The numbers tell the story: in 2025 the truck served more than 80,000 meals, nearly triple its first year.

The result is simple and powerful. As one regular patron shared, “At first I felt a little too proud to go to the soup kitchen, but the food truck staff put those feelings to rest immediately. I never felt judged. They made it clear they’re just there to spread help and love.”
