Expansion is Key as Hunger Surges in Our Community
A Message from TASK's Executive Director
It’s September and Hunger Action Month—like our patron population—is knocking at our doors. This month calls for us to keep food insecurity front and center in our minds and charitable efforts. Over the last year, we’ve written about the impact that the pandemic and subsequent inflation has had on our community, causing many who never needed help with food before to line up for our drive-thru food distributions with Rise or to visit our community meal sites for the opportunity to have a warm, nutritious meal.
This is why, beginning Saturday, September 24, TASK will open our doors for a weekend meal for the first time in our history.
On the 24th, from 11:00am—1:00pm, we invite you to join us at TASK to help commemorate our 40 years of service and the launch of our Saturday meals. We’ll enjoy BBQ fare from the TASK kitchen, music from The FunkTASKtiks and a variety of family-friendly activities. At 1:00pm, you’re invited to come inside for a short program. We hope you will join TASK staff, volunteers and patrons to mark this momentous occasion.
Today and always, TASK is here—as it has been for 40 years—to answer the door to those seeking food.
Just a quick glance at the stats on the next two pages show that TASK’s food-first, no-questions-asked philosophy has not only helped thousands of people avoid hunger, but also to gain hope, opportunity and a sense of community.
The depth of services that TASK provides at our dining room can make a meal a life changer.
As we acknowledge our 40th anniversary, we are also looking at ways to continue to transform lives and communities through an exciting strategic planning process. TASK’s Board of Trustees, staff, volunteers, patrons and community partners are gathering to look at our changing environment so we can shape the TASK of the future, while staying true to the same guiding principles that make us so effective and impactful.
YOU are a critical part of our story, and we hope that you continue to write it with us. Your support changes lives for many and keeps hope alive. YOU turn hunger into hope.
With Gratitude,
Joyce E. Campbell
