Last week, TASK CEO Amy Flynn was sworn in as a member of the Mercer County Homelessness Trust Fund (HTF), a fund established by the County to provide support to programs that prevent and address homelessness. The task force is charged with providing advice on funding priorities and program implementation.

The Mercer County Office on Homeless Services funds programs at local agencies that include services such as one-time emergency aid to prevent homelessness, access to food, up to 12 months of certain rent or utilities subsidies, and/or comprehensive case management services, homelessness prevention/emergency assistance for individuals and families in need due to a housing crisis and have been determined that one-time assistance will successfully prevent their homelessness, emergency shelter services for homeless single adults, identification services for Mercer County individuals experiencing homelessness, and much more.

Homelessness continues to rise across New Jersey with an 8% increase in individuals experiencing homelessness from 2024 to 2025. Vulnerable populations of both children under the age of 18 and seniors over the age of 55 each represent a 20% share of New Jersey’s homeless population. There’s no question that experiences of homelessness and hunger are often intertwined. TASK’s invitation to serve on this initiative aligns with our mission and our overall commitment to remain in partnership with local organizations in order to best serve the communities of Mercer County.

“I am very proud to serve the community in this way,” says Flynn. “And I am especially pleased to serve alongside TASK program participants who can provide their firsthand lived experience on the issues we are facing. Homelessness and hunger often walk side by side, and I believe that the task force will have the opportunity to support some meaningful initiatives that will make a real difference to the people we serve.”
