TASK Responds to the Impact of Cut SNAP Benefits

More than 800,000 New Jersey residents have recently temporarily lost their SNAP benefits. This represents one in eight households in the state. Nearly half of the 800,000 are children, approximately one in three are individuals with a disability and one in five are over the age of 60. We know that things are confusing right now and that many people in our community are worried about what the future holds.
In a place like Trenton, where more than one-quarter of the population lives below the federal poverty line — and thousands more close to it — the impact is significant. All across our area, agencies like TASK are bracing for a surge in food insecurity while our community faces fear and anxiety as they face an unprecedented future.

Here at TASK, we have made the investments necessary to meet the increase in need, adding more staff and new equipment over the past year to produce more meals for more people. We have also grown our network of community meal sites, including food truck stops across the city, to get more food into more hands at more places. You can find a schedule of our services hours here: https://trentonsoupkitchen.org/meal-service/
For more than 43 years, TASK has served meals, without interruption, to those who need them. Through recessions, natural disasters and pandemics, we have never had to turn anyone away from a meal, and we will continue to serve the community thanks to your support.
We are powered through the generosity of our donors and volunteers who make this work possible. THANK YOU for your care and compassion. Our community needs it now more than ever!
