On Friday, September 12, TASK hosted our fourth annual community meal and BBQ event to bring awareness to Hunger Action Month – a declaration of commitment to do all that we can as a community to relieve as much hunger in our communities as we can. Guests danced to the sounds of our house band, The FunkTASKtiks, and enjoyed a delicious BBQ meal prepared by the TASK kitchen.

The event brought together over 700 guests including the entire TASK community, staff, volunteers, donors and legislators to commemorate Hunger Action Month and reflect on our accomplishments over the past year. Sitting together in the shade of tents on the grounds of neighboring Capital City Farm truly embodies the spirit of what we do here at TASK.

Over the past year, we have seen significant growth in the need for our services and we are proud of how we have been able to rise to the challenge to help as many neighbors as we possibly can. The TASK food truck now delivers hot nutritious meals 5 days a week throughout Trenton, our community meal site total has reached just over 50 locations and over 12,000 meals are served every single week at our central Escher Street site. Mercer County has the highest percentage of food insecurity of all surrounding counties at 11.1%, so we understand the need and continue to work toward fighting hunger in our community every day.

“While we are challenged with the knowledge that the future will bring increased need across our community, this event is a chance for our community to celebrate the strides we’ve made and the incredible partnerships that make it possible,” says TASK CEO Amy Flynn.

TASK leadership honored and acknowledged some of those partnerships during a short reception after the BBQ. From collaborators and advocates to local legislators and corporate sponsors, the impact TASK is able to make multiplies with every partnership we forge.

TASK’s fourth annual community BBQ was made possible by the support of sponsors including NJM Insurance Group; Capital Health; Rita’s of Ewing, NJ; Reilly Financial Group, LLC; The Br’Island Group, LLC; CBIZ Borden Perlman; Affinity Credit Union; Hatfield Schwartz Law Group; Lear & Pannepacker, LLP; The Princeton Group; Pennington Quality Market; and Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Hamilton.

TASK is grateful for everyone who helped make this event possible and everyone who helps fulfill TASK’s mission each and every day.
