The Ripple Effects of Kindness
This holiday season, you can be the difference between hunger and hope
What TASK has been able to achieve this past year, thanks to the enduring support of kind-hearted people like you, is nothing short of extraordinary.
- TASK provided nearly 600,000 hot, nourishing meals to our neighbors in need. In August alone, we served 50,000 meals — the most ever in one month in our 42-year history.
- We distributed meals to over 40 sites across Central New Jersey and Eastern Pennsylvania. While most meals feed the city of Trenton, we also served places where hunger is more hidden like Princeton, Lawrenceville and Morrisville, PA.
- Our new mobile soup kitchen recently surpassed 25,000 meals, dramatically expanding TASK’s ability to serve children, seniors and the unsheltered in the Capital City.
- This summer, TASK served our 7 millionth meal.
Your impact is clear. TASK simply couldn’t do what we do without the generosity of people like you who believe that everyone in our community deserves access to delicious and nutritious food.
WE MUST MEET THE GROWING NEED
Realizing our dream for a hunger-free tomorrow can seem elusive when you consider the explosive growth in food insecurity.
Right now, one in every nine people in our community faces food insecurity daily.
Child hunger rates are through the roof — rising nearly 50% in our area in just one year. Mercer County is currently home to 10,930 food insecure kids.
Homelessness is also surging. Mercer County saw a 31% increase in the number of people experiencing homelessness over the last year — notably, 28% are children under 18.
If you’ve volunteered recently at the soup kitchen, you’ve seen the growth in need firsthand. Long lines snake around the block prior to meal service. Our Escher Street dining room is packed with seniors, the working poor, people experiencing homelessness, patrons with disabilities and a growing number of families with children.
An outpouring of support from individuals like YOU allowed TASK to meet the unprecedented challenges of the pandemic. We are hoping that we can count on you now to join TASK and help our community weather this latest crisis.
YOUR COMPASSION OFFERS A LIFELINE
“I feel safe when I’m at the soup kitchen.” “I always feel welcome.” “I know I’m not alone.”
Testimonials like these from the people TASK serves show what a powerful impact your support has had on our neighbors in need. Getting at the root cause of hunger means helping folks overcome barriers to self-sufficiency. That’s why TASK offers wrap-around services to help patrons secure identification, get a job, find a place to live, learn digital literacy skills and build self-esteem through art, music and writing workshops.
“TASK changed my life,” shared Sharon Horne, a longtime friend of TASK. “The soup kitchen helped me become more confident, more positive with myself.” Years ago, TASK helped Horne get a job at UPS where she is a star employee. Sharon is now the proud mother of a college student!
Breaking inter-generational cycles of poverty isn’t easy. But TASK is committed to making a difference by doing what we do best – serving hope, one meal at a time, no questions asked.
TASK remains the only soup kitchen in our area that’s open six days a week, offering food and so much more.
If you are in a position to help, please consider a donation today. Your support allows TASK to continue to offer life-saving meals and provide the support our community needs to get back on their feet and leave hunger behind
